SOCCER: Socceroos star Daniel Arzani’s hopes of playing for Australia at the Asian Cup are fading after he injured his knee just 18 minutes into his debut for Celtic.

Arzani was this morning waiting to hear the results of tests to know whether he has ruptured* his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) which would leave him facing a nine- to 12-month recovery period.

Arzani was carried off the field after being injured against Dundee, and appeared to get to his feet and wave to fans, giving Celtic supporters some optimism* that the injury is not as bad as feared.

NRL: Blues coach Brad Fittler has turned his back on 111 years of history by changing the famous colour of NSW’s rugby league jumper.

In a historic change from tradition, NSW will drop the mostly sky blue jumper for a navy blue jersey for the second Origin game in Perth next year.

“We pride ourselves on being innovative* and this will be the first time in State of Origin history that a team has used an alternate* jersey,” Fittler said.

“It aligns* with our vision of taking a fresh new approach to the series, and the game’s decision to take Origin matches to new frontiers*.”

MOTORSPORT: Mark Winterbottom has left the door open for a switch to Holden next season after announcing his departure from long-term Supercars home Tickford Racing.

The 37-year-old will end a 13-year association with the team he steered to success in the 2015 championship and 2013 Bathurst 1000, with Steven Richards. The shock move was announced last night. Winterbottom and Tickford insist the parting of ways was friendly. “I shook hands with the Tickford management and we wished each other all the best,” Winterbottom said.

BASKETBALL: Ben Simmons stunned the NBA with what many fans are calling the worst game in his basketball career, racking up 11 turnovers against Toronto.

The Philadelphia star fell just three turnovers shy of Jason Kidd’s all-time record of 14 as the 76ers slumped to a 129-112 loss to the Raptors.

The thumping continued Philly’s ugly 0-4 streak away from home.

In a positive for Simmons, the Melbourne-born star narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
